A miraculous collaboration between Asahiyaki, a 400-year-old ware manufacturer, and a unique artist

Good evening. This is Marie, a member of the HERALBONY staff.
Starting today, we will be selling one-of-a-kind tea utensils created in collaboration with Isai and ceramic artist Matsubayashi Hosai on our online store. Why did HERALBONY create these tea utensils? We will introduce the story behind it.

400 years of history
Collaboration with Asahiyaki

This tea ceremony, held in early September, was inspired by the words of Murata Juko, the founder of wabi-cha tea, "confuse the boundaries between Japanese and Chinese," and through tea utensils made by artists with disabilities, it was intended to allow people to experience a society in which people naturally intermingle without being conscious of the boundaries of disabilities. The 16th generation of Asahi-yaki, Matsubayashi Hosai, sympathized with this concept, and this project was realized.
The key visual for this project features the unique artists who created the tea utensils, Hiyoshi Masaharu and Higo Miyuki (both of whom are affiliated with Atelier Yahho!! in Kyoto).
Asahiyaki is a pottery studio located in Uji, Kyoto, known as the center of tea culture. They have been making tableware for the tea ceremony for over 400 years, and their works are also in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK.
The unique tea utensils fired by Matsubayashi Hosai, the 16th generation Asahiyaki potter, have a unique look and feel, such as the striking modern style of the vivid and captivating light blue of the Gekkishiro glaze, and the unique "kase" spots that are the result of kiln changes, a traditional feature of Asahiyaki. HERALBONY, which aims to "create a culture for the next 100 years," and Asahiyaki, which has a long history alongside the culture of tea ceremony, are charming works. Please enjoy this miraculous collaboration.

Unique and one-of-a-kind tea utensils

Tea bowl | HERALBONY x Asahi Yaki 16th Shorin Hosai

Plates | HERALBONY x Asahi Kiln
The tea utensils are painted with the artist's own unique depiction of "Autumn." Although the artist usually paints on canvas or drawing paper, the impression is entirely different when painted on Asahiyaki clay from Uji. This is a valuable piece that gives a glimpse into the new history of Japanese culture, which has developed in harmony with different values.
Please enjoy these precious, one-of-a-kind pieces.
